Khojaly Genocide February 26, 1992

Monument in the Hague

"On the night of February 25-26, 1992, in the course of the Nagorno-Karabakh war between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Armenian armed forces attacked the Azerbaijani-populated town of Khojaly with support of the 366th motor-rifle regiment of Russian army. Fleeing civilian residents of the town have been subjected to one of the most brutal mass killings of the 20th century. 613 Azerbaijani civilians, including 106 women, 63 children and 70 elderly were hunted down, tortured and killed by Armenian forces, over 1000 were reported missing. Human Rights Watch recognized it the worst massacre of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict and equated it to a crime against humanity"[1]

In an article[2]published in News.az on the 21st anniversary of the tragedy, the author who is from Khojaly quotes John Lennon with his line which reads "I hope someday you will join us, and the world will live as one"  line and says:

"People present their feeling of justice in different photo frames. Being beyond the limits of history calls people to the future, not to the past. And future sees world united around justice. My thoughts are photo which consists of keyboard and fingers…"

On the 21st anniversary of the Khojaly Genocide let's keep on hoping for justice and peace while we remember those who lost their lives savagely tortured.
