It all started on Sunday, when I could not limit the pages I was to scan before I returned a borrowed book and decided to check the price to buy a copy for myself. To my surprise the Turkish Historical Society (TTK) has gone into an unbelievable sale. So my visit to the e-bookstore ended up with selection of these books, upon discovery of such an opportunity not to be missed. Actually, I will get some more.
Genocide alliegers have unfortunately been successful to cast doubt upon Turkish publications using lapsus linguae, and the blame is telling an unrealistic official history . Turkish scholars are aware of this situation and meticulously use archival documents from other countries involved, and do not usually neglect adding facsimiles of the documents used in their books where they think it is needed.. Particularly TTK Publications are usually well sourced and indexed. Because of this approach, books like Türkiye'de Ermeni Meselesi (Rus Genel Kurmay Başkanlığı Belgeleri) [The Armenian Question in Turkey (Russian General Staff Documents)] compiled by Professor Mikhail Baskhanov, which is a translation into Turkish from Russian is bilingual, containing the original book as well. It also includes the facsimiles of the first pages of 55 documents covered.
876 book titles are on offer in the bookstore. Issues of various periodicals like Belleten, Belgeler and Höyük are also available.Weaknesses of the e-store are the lack of ability to sort books by language and the lack of subject category headings in English, which probably makes life rather difficult for customers from abroad who doesn't know Turkish.
While TTK offers publications in print for purchase, most Turkish Archives publications are available online free. It would be good if TTK could also offer e-books.
