Thanks to 65 French MPs and 77 senators who appealed to the Constitutional Council in the name of freedom of speech. Cumhuriyet reports that “France's highest constitutional authority is expected to pass a ruling late February or early March on a law that makes it a crime to deny Armenian allegations on Ottoman era incidents of 1915”. At least seven members out of nine need to concur for to make a binding decision in the Council. The Council may reject a law altogether, or approve it entirely or partially. If the council annuls the law, the French government intends to present a new bill. However, only one week will be left then for that purpose, as the French parliament is scheduled to go on recess on March 9 due to upcoming presidential elections with first tour in April. Let's hope free speech wins.
