Mr. President and Mr. / Madam Senators;
I reproach the French Senators who voted for the passage of the bill which will penalize denial of mass killing of Armenians early last century as genocide.
I come from Erzurum; my grandparents had to emigrate because insurgent Armenians were torturing and killing Muslim people. You may not know that the population of only Erzurum province decreased by one third as a result of genocides exercised by Armenians to Turks from 1893 until retreat of the Russian armies; not to mention other provinces occupied by Russia at the time.
Your votes for approval of the bill can bring you votes at the elections but do not change the historical facts and I regret to say that it is defaming. If you want scholarly facts please spare a few minutes and glance through a speech given by Dr. McCarthy on Armenian-Turkish Conflict.
I dream that peoples of all countries fought in the First World War rise; come together and sue all the governments involved at International Court of Justice; La Haye; for causing 37.5 million+ suffer and die and ask these governments to apologize. I wonder if you knew that Turks and other Muslim peoples living together with Turks lost 5.5 million souls from 1912 to 1922; including civils killed during the occupation of Anatolia from 1918 to 1922. I will not name the occupiers as I am sure you know. We have forgotten all lived through almost 100 years ago and wish we were not reminded.
I would like to express my respect to the RDSE Group; Senator Nathalie Goulet; Senator Jaques Mezard and other senators who voted against this bill which denies freedom of expression and historical facts and I am looking forward to their appeal at the Constitutional Court hoping for justice.
Respectfully
Selma Aslan
